Dartcom Notice of Implementation of the Protection of Private Information (POPI) Act

The Protection of Private Information Act No.4 of 2013 (“the Act”) that was signed into law comes into effect on 1 July 2021. The purpose of the Act is to ensure that the personal information of people is protected when organisations, in both the public and private sector, access and process that personal information.

Dartcom and its subsidiaries, Gbitel, Oragen, Dartcom Fibre Solutions and Dartmed are always mindful of the protection of personal information and access and process information in the manner that is stipulated by the POPI Act.

However, to ensure full compliance, we have implemented the additional measures set out in Chapter 3, section 8 to 25 of the POPI Act, and section 51 of the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA), 2000.

These measures include but are not limited to:

• Publishing the POPI Policy and PAIA Manual (can be accessed via Workplace, our internal communications platform, and on our website site www.dartcom.digitalhumanitydev.co.za)
• Appointing an Information Officer and Deputy Information Officers
• Conducting Employee Awareness Sessions
• Ensuring employee induction, contracts, credit applications and supplier vetting forms align to the Acts and stipulated data privacy requirements
